I have no complaints from We Are Family.
I didn’t expect to be writing that, I didn’t expect We Are Family to be any good. I didn’t expect it to be a good adaption of Stepmom; I didn’t expect it to maybe even be better. But on all counts, We Are Family has risen above expectations.
Director Siddharth P Malhotra and producer Karan Johar deserve full marks for reigning in the drama. You associate Johar’s movie with intense melodrama, thankfully We Are Family is handled maturely enough and doesn’t go overboard. There are no unnecessary sequences where everyone is bawling their eyes out; there are tears, of course, but only as much as required. The story has been adapted very well; it’s been given an Indian touch that works really well. Plus, there’s a twist in between, there’s a change at the crux of the story which makes going into the second half even more interesting. Effectively, what you get is a very watchable and enjoyable movie.
One of the better things about We Are Family is the performances. Kajol (as Maya, the ex-wife and mother of three kids) and Kareena (as Shreya, the girlfriend of the kids’ father and their future stepmom) are expected to give in their best. And both of them do. Arjun Rampal (as Aman, the divorced father) holds his own as well. So do the three kids, they’re all the sweet, nice children that we’ve seen in Bollywood movies before. But nothing wrong with that, these are the kind of kids that we want to watch on the big screen and they’re cast well in We Are Family. Kajol and Kareena hold the fort, while the others rally around them very well. By the by, the Jailhouse Rock song sequence is easily one of the movie’s finest.
We Are Family is concise; it runs for around two hours, which is just about right. The movie doesn’t stretch, nor does it bore. It entertains, makes you smile as well as choke back tears. As far as family dramas are concerned, We Are Family is right up there. Should you go for it? Definitely.
Rating: I think I’ll be bold and give it 4 stars out of 5.

Yo, if you must post shitty comments the least you can do is write proper sentences. Or express yourself in your mother tongue or something.
I refuse to believe this movie can be better than Stepmom!
Maybe I should really go and see it.
dont waste precious time n money to see this one
before running to watch just check reviews of rajeev masand mayank shekhar etc etc they have said this a bad movie.. stay away
then check out mumbai mirror review
make tie sauron to a chair to make her see the nonsense movie 4 times for 4 stars
its flop for sure
whaaat? Saurin’s a GIRL???????
Any movie that has Kajol in it is worth watching. And even though i think Kareena is a stupid tranny with an attitude from hell, at least she too can act.
Rampal looks like a fucking druggie…(hmmm….Sanket just realizes where he is…..) which is GREAT because drugs…they just…err….make your skin glow.
ok whatever.
so i’ll be checking this movie out. And feed you some back from a guys perspective. Since i just discovered Saurin’s a non-guy.
“which is GREAT because drugs…they just…err….make your skin glow.”
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
We tied SAURON to a chair and it became the poster of Antardwand.
I read the Mumbai Mirror review, yeah… Minty Tejpal is hilarious!
it seems saurin tried to guess the box office outcome and then wrote the review
very poor
