Kali Metal Bar – Not Built To Last

It was a beautiful thought but a terrible idea.

A shack in Anjuna that blasted extreme metal squatting not too far from Holy Cross Chapel is a part of the past now.

I wouldn’t go to a metal pub more than twice a month if there was one in Mumbai, so I had to force myself to visit Kali Metal Bar on my last afternoon in Goa.

If only this shack had been on a beach, I’d have spent the week in it. Unfortunately, Kali Metal Bar is located at the Anjuna-Assagao junction on the Siolim road.

On an empty road, surrounded by vast patches of green and with the church as its neighbour, Kali Metal Bar couldn’t entice enough people to stop by for drinks.

Can’t blame the people – why would anyone (metalhead or otherwise) in Goa want to drag himself away from everything to sit in a lifeless shack? Okay, so visiting a shack that is in the middle of nowhere and has posters of metal bands all over the walls and even on the tables may be exciting for many a metal fan but I highly doubt that anybody would want to do it more than once.

Anyway, Kali Metal Bar has been sold off because it was a super flop.

The former owner has found himself a more conventional way of earning his livelihood, and the current owner will give Kali Metal Bar its new identity just before the next season.

I don’t think a metal bar is a bad idea. I think Goa is a bad place for metal. Plenty of metal/rock bars in Bangy do well….

looks so lifeless. check this metal bar in bangalore, the next time you go there, on m.g.road called styx. they have live vdj every evening. i always go there whenever i go to bangalore. amazing place.

Styx is no longer that great. They keep playing standard commercial songs. Check out Jimi’s in Koramangala. Salman DJs there and plays good music.

There’s also another place on Brigade Road. Brigade Fuel (or was it Guzzlers), they play some pretty heavy shit as well.
