In the state of Karnataka, except in the city of Bangalore, you will not find any beer worth drinking. Bangalore, being the hometown of the most overrated beer in India (Kingfisher Premium), has a great divide. It is where Bangalore’s first and (so far) only brewpub is. The Biere Club is the only place that serves craft beer, and some other good beer can be had in other restaurants and pubs, but the local bars, like local bars anywhere in India, stock stuff that’s meant to get one drunk as soon as possible – cheap, strong beer, and the hard stuff. But it is quite an experience to spend a morning drinking oneself silly while the regulars of that bar getting their first fix of liquor wonder why somebody very obviously not from the city would get excited about Royal Challenge beer.

Someone I knew, a hardcore Mumbaiite, used to call this city Banga”bore” even though she was originally from there. Yes, there are a few fancy bars but the overall entertainment scene is as exciting as Aapnu “Dry City” Amdavaad.
