Beer Review: Christoffel Bier

Reviewed at On The Edge, Bengaluru/Bangalore

The best lager I’ve had yet, and by far the most drinkable beer I’ve had this year, Christoffel Bier comes in a swing top bottle and pours a cloudy orange. This Dutch lager is double hopped, as the bottle says, but also has a malt backing. The spicy, peppery hop bitterness is present in the nose and is abundant in the taste. A pint of this unfiltered brew isn’t enough; when Christoffel Bier comes to the city of dreams, I’ll spend a Sunday evening drinking lots of it with friends.

RATING: 5/5

Even i tasted it in steak house and its awsome. By the way, for your info it’s not a lager beer which is one reason for its uniqueness. There are 2 main beer types : LAGER (80% beers) and ALE. Ale’s use very unique type of yeast for fermentation process which gives it a different color and taste. Christoffel is an ALE beer :-)

Somehow I can’t find them in most wine shops in Bangalore. It’s MRP is 208/-. Would be helpful if someone could mention where to buy one in Bangalore.

Thanks for correcting me. I thought the bottle said it was a double-hopped lager. Anyway, I had it at On The Edge for around 350/- and was quite happy with the pricing. A hell lot better than paying 200 bucks for a a big bottle of Kingfisher. Is it very expensive at Steak House? And I’ve been told Christoffel and some other really good beers are available at liquor stores at malls in Bangalore. :)

@Aditya: Some updates about imported beers in bangalore. Try St. bernardus abt 12 or Chimay. They taste way better than Christoffel and cost less too (about 199/-). These are brewed in belgium (they make the best ALE’s in the world). Never try beers at restaurants, they will be expensive as I learnt lately. You can get them at MORE outlets or Nilarya trading company.

You might also wanna try out ALE beers at the Biere club @ Lavelle Road :-) They make there own beer in-house. I pay a visit twice a month. After tasting these beers I decided never to taste KF again :-)

      Thanks, Davis!

I quit drinking 8 months ago because it was getting out of hand, but I’ll run to St. Bernardus if I decide to start drinking again.

I went to The Biere Club when I was in Bangalore for the Metallica concert, yeah! That was fun!
