Bar Review: Nityanand Coastal Treat

Nityanand Bar & Restaurant

Nityanand Restaurant & Bar

Of the five bars at Irla, Nityanand Restaurant & Bar has a cult following. Clearly visible from the Irla signal on S.V. Road, this watering hole is the haunt of many regulars and has a relaxed atmosphere that gets newcomers used to it almost immediately.

Nityanand, previously known as Coastal Treat is run by friendly but no-nonsense managers and dedicated staff. Unlike the waiters at the once popular Asiad (overworked, helpless) and the overhyped Harish (largely uninterested unless you’re a regular), the ones at Nityanand are a pleasant lot.

Being mainly a place where people walk in for a drink, discovering the food here is quite a surprise. The seafood is less in quantity, the tandoori chicken is really good, the surmai rava fry goes well with whisky as does the prawn biryani. The booze prices are reasonable for a bar like this and you can’t smoke in the non-a/c section either.

Stuff like butter chicken and dal fry is standard but the vegetarian kheema is lip-smacking. Residents of Irla, Andheri West, Vile Parle West flock to Nityanand as well other bars here like Harish (overpriced and overrated), Canara (sad), Asiad (careless) and Sitar (have been there once, was too young, don’t remember). Most of these bars are open till 1 am, a good time to stumble back home.

Excellent site, keep up the good work. I read a lot of blogs on a daily basis and for the most part, people lack substance but, I just wanted to make a quick comment to say I’m glad I found your blog. Thanks,

    A definite great read…:)
