MegaDave For Grammy

After all these years, everything still boils down to Metallica, Megadeth and Slayer.

dave-mustaine.grammyLegends. Gods. Kings. The unholy trinity of thrash metal. Sorry, Anthrax. Forget it, Exodus. Bye, Testament. As much as anyone tries to squeeze lesser bands into the space the unholy trinity has created, they are well aware that other bands don’t have the magic. ‘Unholy’ sounds completely off, I know, considering most of these bands follow Christianity. That’s besides the point.

The point is, I want Megadeth to win a Grammy this year. Not because Grammies are ‘the shit’ or anything, but it’s a big deal when lesser music bows down before and recognizes metal for the greatness it is. Because ‘Tallica’s got ‘em and Slayer got one last year for Christ Illusion. And just for that, if no other reason, Megadeth should get one for Endgame because it’s way ahead of everything Metallica and Slayer have done in the last many years. And also because Dave Mustaine might never get a Grammy if he doesn’t get it for Endgame. Bet he’d like to go up there and say something clever.

Seven consecutive Grammy nominations, and not a single win, something doesn’t smell right.

    🙂 You really think so?

As of now, Megadeth > Metallica > Slayer

The best ‘old’ thrash albums this decade have been by bands who never got their due back in the 80s, at least to the extent that the ‘big 4’ did. Megadeth, with ‘Endgame’, are the only one that have managed to stay relevant, and they probably aced my list too. Anthrax, Slayer, and Metallica have all gone down the shitter (As much as I loved Death Magnetic on release, it hasn’t aged well at all. I’m probably chalking away my initial infatuation with fanboyism).

    Exodus-Tempo of the Damned
    Destruction-The Antichrist
    Onslaught-Killing Peace
    Mekong Delta-Lurking Fear

Dude, btw..did you give any of those Deathspell Omega albums a shot? Especially, Si Monumentum Circumspice…if not, please do so. The next full length, Fas-Ite Maledicti…, is much more chaotic, but with greater lyrical work too. And trust me, no black metal band does blasphemous lyrics like Deathspell Omega. But yeah, Si Monumentum, Kenose, Fas, and the latest EP, Chaining the Catechon, are the greatest series of ritual satanic BM ever done, in my humble opinion.

Also, (don’t mind my spamming, but I rarely run into you these days), check out this band called The Ruins of Beverast and their (well, his..it’s a one man band) new album ‘Foulest Semen of a Sheltered Elite’. It’s 80s mins long, but it really does fly by if you get into it….I guess you could call it BM, but it’s a hell lot of doom too… It’s almost cinematic in its scope, minimalistic too, at times, ( 😉 ), and superb compositionally.
