Beer Review: Peroni Nastro Azzurro

Embrace your inner Italian? No, thanks!

peroni nastro azzurroEvery country has its beer hero and for Italy, Peroni it is. The bottle is light green and the brew light yellow. I was told the beer itself is light but it turned out to be heavier than most of our Indian beers. While it is a nice, easy to drink beer, there is nothing about it that will make you want to buy it again. When I held it up to my nose, the smell made me put it down for a few seconds and I was convinced that “Nastro Azzurro” is Italian for Nostril Attack. It has a great amount of bitterness and the aroma is exceptionally strong with hints of a sweet floral nature. Not bad with Italian cuisine when served chilled (the beer, not the food), though it tastes like soapwater when it gets warmer. Would I pay for this? No!

    Probably vijay mallya fans wont pay for this beer, If its not worth “PAY-RONI” for “PERONI” (Italian for Beer!)
    To divert ths topic a lil bit, Vijay is equally dumb when it comes to launching his new lines of beer products in the market. Recently, post shift early morning i went drinking with my office colleagues. Most of us drink KF Mild apart from 1-2 rum drinkers. The Waiter suggested us to try new KF “ULTRA”. Before we got excited to try this new beer, we were already a one-one bottle of KF Mild down individually. Then the KF “ULTRA” was served, trust me it was like water and it turned the whole trip of our previous beer completely down. To give u an hypothetical example- its like smoking Bada Goldflake and then ur asked to smoke Gold Flake lites which probably wont appeal u until u get that punch out of smoking that strong flavored tobacco.
    So, for all the beer drinkers, i’d suggest that u stick to ur existing choice of beer that u prefer drinking all the time. Well, there is no harm tryin new things but sometimes u feel its not worth changing ur choice of taste… Once Swami Vivekanand told Vijay Mallya “Alcohol may not be the answer to all questions.” So Mallya replied “But Alcohol helps u to forget all the questions”

    You should try looking up La Rossa if it’s available. Much better than Peroni, much richer with a sweet caramel, smoked flavour.

    Hey after Peroni, a Hoegaarden review from you is inevitable. My Swiss friend talks highly of this beer. Wasn’t in a tasting mood much, would like to hear it up from you!

    Yamas! Skolld! Salute!

    @Yash – you don’t like LP mild?
    Its one of our best finds. 8 months and still not getting tired of it!

    I’ve had Hoegaarden but I’ll wait for Mr Akshat Trivedi’s expert comments on it. Or maybe I’ll have it again tonight and write about it tomorrow. Unless I get my hands on Guinness, that is. Too much uncertainty. London Pilsner is a fucking classic beer.

    Soap-water is correct.
