Movie Review: Rocket Singh

Film: “Rocket Singh – Salesman Of The Year”

Director: “Shimit Amin”

Writer: “Jaideep Sahni”

Actors: “Ranbir Kapoor”, “Gauhar Khan”, “Prem Chopra”, “Shazahn Padamsee”, “D Santosh”

Shimit Amin sets his pace with a third big step and keeps off corny muck at all times. With apt dialogue by the ton, Jaideep Sahni’s story has a Sardar eager to excel at his first job pissing the big boss off in no time. Jeered at by his workmates, humiliated by the boss and almost fired from his company, HP Singh (Kapoor) partners with a few colleagues to start a new business venture. Things take off and Singh also develops a love interest, which runs parallel to the story for a bit and doesn’t overstay its welcome. Kapoor’s Rocket Sales Corporation comprises of a computer engineer addicted to porn, an aggressive sales senior with a semi-handlebar mustache and strange sideburns, a peon who occasionally brews tea, and model Gauhar Khan who besides being sexy can act and is highly watchable. Shazahn Padamsee and Prem Chopra add to the story without being overbearing, and the man who plays the boss Puri is superb. Shimit Amin shapes the film as he goes along, and lets the sweet taste of victory be savoured without jubilant gloating.

RATING: 3.5/5

From the promos, it seems to be an interesting watch. A concept which to my memory has never been explored in a Bollywood flick! It’s refreshing enough to watch the ‘subtle’ movie, unless it proves me otherwise. At least, it looks that way from the promos – either the promos are brilliantly promoted or movie is refreshing enough.

I must laud Shimit Amin, a new kid on the block, with a glint in his eyes and endeavor to become a sensible, creative film maker, works wonderfully well as a cohesive unit with Jaideep Sahni. He is simply remarkable with his inherent ability to be in sync with sense and sensitivity and, yet he never goes over the top, in his short career so far. If he sticks to his peculiar ways, he is going to be involved in some innovative, coming of age Indian cinema!

Alright, enough of my balderdash. Its time, to see the Rocket launch! 😛

The movie revolves around Ranbir Kapoor and YOU put up a big picture of Gauhar Khan 😐

Shortest review of yours that I’ve come across. 🙂

First thing i would like to say is i am relieved that ranbir’s career graph is looking great! terrific by all our expectations also,i can now drink without tension.
that bastard taran adarsh has given rocket singh only 1 & 1/2 star rating. he proved long ago that he doesnt understand bollywood and worst of all, he doesnt even understand business. taran gives visual garbage like blue a good review for short term gain and doesnt understand he wont be part of the larger picture should he continue like this. i was boiling with anger when someone sent me a website link to his review and i would pay through my nose to have his hands and legs broken. now my temper has cooled down because ranbir’s film has got positive feedback from all over and i want all his future projects to be successful like this.

god bless and lots of love from chintoo

    Taran adarsh does paid reviews.

Shimit Amin is brilliant, specially Mehta when you told me that he’s also done Ab Tak Chhapan (!!!)

Whoa! Balki should take a cue from him how do be different. (balki loves showing bald children behaving like grownups and bald grownups behaving like children….bwahahaha!)

Im not a big Hindi flick fan, but after this pint of a review might not wait for the DVD copy after all 😉
