Music Review: Abrahadabra

Dimmu Borgir is here with their ninth album. It’s called Abrahadabra (hilarious, I know) and it’s got the fanboys awestruck. Kicking the others out wasn’t such a bad idea after all, because it gaveĀ Dimmu Borgir a chance to show they can suck even without those dudes. Sticking to the same old formula may not be such a bad thing, but in Dimmu Borgir‘s case it’s terrible. Fucking boring parts with orchestral shit coming in every now and then, absolutely ridiculous female vocals, promising attempts at experimentation gone wrong… no wonder the fans are over the moon. Overdramatic as always, these Norwegians do exactly as is expected of them and march through the motions without any sign of conviction or soul. Considering Abrahadabra has some decent melodies, how nice would it be if Dimmu Borgir fired the orchestra, fucked and killed the chick singer, and multiplied the blast-beats? I did like these guys when I got introduced to black metal (which was over a decade ago), so I hope their 10th album is tolerable, because ‘enjoyable’ sounds like too much to ask for right now.
