Music Review: Deicide – To Hell With God (2011)

The kings of Satanic death metal are back with another album I want to never listen to again. Deicide are not getting back in form with To Hell With God – a bunch of predictably formulaic songs Glen Benton & Co. are selling as their new album.

Glen is over his ex-wife at last and has focused his hate on god again. I wonder if he’s bored of being angry at the same thing (which doesn’t exist, by the way), because I certainly am.

I honestly don’t give a fuck about what he’s singing because he’s said what he had to a long, long time ago. With mind-bending music, killer lyrics and vocals that would knock Jesus Christ’s head off.

How’s the music? Exactly like the last few albums. Save a couple of strong tracks, there’s nothing here that any Deicide fan can’t get from countless other lesser death metal bands.

Glen Benton’s growling is powerful but his anger isn’t convincing. Steve Asheim’s drumming is powerful but the songs are nothing great. Ralph Santolla ruins everything with his melodic solos, and Jack Owen could’ve brought in some Cannibal Corpse-style grooves instead of looking around like a rat.

Deicide hasn’t done anything remotely interesting in years. Extremely fast music with zero substance doesn’t thrill me, and To Hell With God is mostly that.

This is not the Deicide I know.

RATING: 2.5/5

Deicide has not had a strong release since “Serpents of the Light”. All the music they have made after that sounds either forced or lame.

I like glen only when he tap dances to “Satan rules” and the fag jack owen nods his head to that 🙂

“To Hell With God” is very boring. I should have stopped listening to Deicide long back.

Dude, I don’t think that’s Owen playing on this album.
