Music Review: Roxette – Charm School (2011)

Charm School is the first album from Roxette in over a decade, and on first listen it seems like a bunch of fillers packed together, only to grow on you later as good old pop music can. The Swedish duo will not find a place with today’s youth with these songs; Charm School is for Roxette fans to hear the growth of a band that’s keeping itself free from the pressure of making more instant hits as of now. Going purely by how unhurried the music is, all the songs on this may very well have come from the past.

“That summer went straight to my head”, they sing on I’m Glad You Called. If it means anything, Roxette and Duran Duran are still writing songs about us.

Here’s Roxette recreating the sound that would make them relevant to this generation if Per Gessle and Marie Fredriksson come up with a couple of chartbusters that match their best work. Those unfamiliar with Roxette’s greatness should check out Tourism or wait for the band’s ‘best of’, and fans should have heard this one several times by now.

RATING: 3/5

I’ve only heard one song by them, that one I totally love, will definitely hear more of their songs. But from what you’ve said, I think I may not like them.

Nice review, no one else would have reviewed it like this, lol, just proclaiming that the album is not for today’s generation.

But then, that’s what’s good about your reviews. Write some more.

All the old greats should release a new batch of hits and show the kiddos how it’s done.

Currently it seems like Expression Engine is the top blogging platform out there right now.
(from what I’ve read) Is that what you are using on your blog?
