Beer Review: Jenlain Ambrée

The problem of beer getting warm before you reach home can be solved… by drinking right outside the liquor store. This French beer has won me over without doing anything special – it just smells and tastes manly as fuck. I mean, just a whiff of the crown’s inside reminds me of the many times that had me transfixed in utter fascination as my dad and one his pals would relax and talk man stuff over beer. That was back then, and they used to drink London fucking Pilsner even back then, and if the smell of a brew can excite me like this after the few beers I’ve tried in my life, it’s got to be something.

This Bière de Garde pours a dirty copper colour and has particles that refuse to settle. Jenlain Ambrée is a strong beer that smells like poison and has a one-dimensional malty taste. I have no clue what the fuck, pardon my French, the label at the back of the bottle says, but it’s probably a detailed warning.

Definitely worth a couple of tries, because the one-dimensional sour malt attack and the price tag both won’t let this become a regular in my fridge.

RATING: 3/5
