Beer Review: Liefmans Fruitesse

A strong aroma of candy reaches your nose in less than a second of opening a pint of Liefmans Fruitesse even if you’re holding the bottle a good foot away. This smells like the bubble gum you loved as a kid. The head is pink and disappears very quickly. The low alcohol volume is completely hidden; there’s no way anyone would guess this is an alcoholic beverage. It’s too sweet even for a fruit beer, with the cherry/strawberry candiness all over. It’s surprisingly clean, considering the amount of sugar that must be in it, and has a tarty taste. The best thing about this drink is the way it smells. I’d offer this to somebody who’s not allowed/supposed to drink alcohol. Liefmans Fruitesse is for people who don’t like the way alcoholic drinks taste, and I’m not sure how it qualifies as a beer.

RATING: 3.5/5
