Golden Mango Awards 2011

The best of everything in 2011!

PERSONALITY/MAN OF THE YEAR

Adam ‘Nergal’ Darsky

What do you call a man who has been diagnosed with a life-threatening illness and yet doesn’t turn to religion in the hope of getting saved? A real man, of course! Unlike ordinary mortals who make their peace with ‘god’ and clutch their favourite religious symbol when faced with adversity, Behemoth’s frontman Adam Darsky AKA Nergal became stronger by pooh-poohing thoughts from religious groups that his weakness might bring him close to Christianity. So true to his beliefs is our man Nergal, that not only did he rubbish these notions, but also announced that he now hates Christianity and religion more than ever! I hope Behemoth now makes another album that will send the cowards who feel close to god straight to wherever the fuck they need to go as soon as possible, because this world will be an even more amazing place without poseurs like them. I say this on behalf of every true metalhead: Our respect for Nergal has multiplied a hundredfold, and he has achieved immortality in our hearts! ALL HAIL NERGAL!!!

BEST METAL PERFORMANCE

                                                                          Fen’s Epoch

Of all the music releases I reviewed this year and the metal albums I didn’t have time to write about, Fen’s Epoch is the one I keep turning back to. Fen’s atmospheric black metal is so brilliant that they will gently make their way into your soul. Unimposing from the start to end, the album envelopes your senses like a warm blanket, and by the time The Gibbet Elms comes on, you know Fen’s Epoch is music for a night under the glittering stars. Brilliant!

ARTIST OF THE YEAR

Harsha Iyer

It isn’t his age (19) that sets him apart from other professional musicians, and it isn’t the fact that he has played every instrument on his debut album that makes him stand out. It’s how clearly he understands his purpose in life and how musical instruments surrender to him that let you know Harsha Iyer was born to play music. Harsha Iyer has written, composed, produced, recorded and released his debut album Curious Toys. Despite knowing exactly how unique an artist he is, the prodigy from Chennai has put his album up for free download, and man, is it good or what! CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD Harsha Iyer‘s Curious Toys

BEST FILM OF 2011

Stanley Ka Dabba

A beautiful, original story about a school-going kid who never carries a lunchbox but must bring a tiffin for his gluttonous Hindi teacher, Stanley Ka Dabba is pure and free of ulterior motives – a movie made to tell a story, an innocent film made with no regard to commercial viability. With great acting by the entire cast, especially writer-director Amol Gupte and his son Partho, Stanley Ka Dabba takes you back to your childhood and celebrates food!

SEXIEST WOMAN ON EARTH 2011

                                                               Priyanka Chopra

Just because I’m no longer in love with her doesn’t mean she’s not the hottest chick on the planet! Priyanka Chopra looks redder and hotter as time goes by, and unlike her contemporaries, takes chances and acts in different roles. Her face looks even better now, as does her ass and the rest of her. Oh man, she’s so fucking cute, and she has some good movies lined up, so don’t be surprised if you see her taking this spot even in 2012! I mean, just fucking look at her!

THE BEST BAR IN MUMBAI/INDIA

Sammy Sosa in Oshiwara is by far the best place to drink beer at. They have a separate menu for beer, and stock excellent  brew that’ll make you want to visit the place every day. The food’s Mexican and pretty good, and the waiters sure know how to pour your drink. You get to drink great beers in their respective glasses, and money spent at Sammy Sosa is worth it even though it can get expensive, because there’s no other place in Mumbai that offers so many good beers. What’s the best thing about Sammy Sosa? They don’t serve Kingfisher!
