Restaurant Review: Pind Balluchi

When we walked into Pind Balluchi at Connaught Place in New Delhi, we had no idea that it’s a restaurant chain with 26 outlets in the country. But considering their food is as incompetent as their service, there’s no chance of our going anywhere near Pind Balluchi in any city ever again. What was meant to be an early lunch turned out to be an unpleasant experience. It’s understandable that an ac can stop working, but it’s bewildering to see the staff gape at it as if it might suddenly come back to life. So we asked if we could please move to another table and called for an aam panna (terrible) and a chicken kebab starter (not too bad). The waiters were clueless as to what was going on; they’re too used to people coming in and getting drunk and not finding anything to complain about. None of the waiters knew the difference between the dals and we got one we hadn’t called for. The mutton rahra was average fare, the sort you’d get at any other place. The dhaba-type interiors and the silly Punjabi folk music which are very common now did nothing to improve the meal, and with the kind of service and food they offer, Pind Balluchi can’t justify its prices. One of the managers was shocked that I’d written in great detail on the feedback card what exactly was so pathetic about the restaurant, but he didn’t look ready to get changes made. Oh well, it’s not like we have any intention of going back to Pind Balluchi.
