Review: Bodhi Tree Café

You will always find a chillum being passed around in Bodhi Tree Café – the finest relaxation spot in not just Bhagsunag, but all of Dharamshala. Bodhi Tree Café is where you go when you’re done with watching hippies jam in lesser shacks. Frames of stunning photography adorn the white-bricked walls; an acoustic guitars rests patiently, waiting for a musician to walk in and strum a few chords; tourists who saunter in to laze around but end up drawing, sketching, painting or just sitting back to watch a Hollywood comedy – Bodhi Tree Café has so much more going for it than its marvellous interiors. The decor is obviously what draws you in, but it’s the calm you experience while unwinding at the most good-looking art café you’ve been to that keeps you going back. The handwritten menu (in beautiful, sprawling handwriting, if I may add) offers basic Indian and international cuisine, customized by Dipankar Roy, one of the two co-owners who brought to life their idea of this delightful little place in Upper Bhagsu. Cut-off from the crowd of soulless restaurants that form a cluster in the small town, Bodhi Tree Café takes an exhausting climb upwards to reach, and with good reason: Bodhi Tree Café is an experience only for those seeking a high dose of tranquillity. Highly recommended for those who want to sit back with a spliff, sipping an exotic coffee blend in an utterly fabulous setting.
