Beer Review: Birra Moretti

A pleasant surprise from Italy and Heineken, Birra Moretti is a clean lager that’s on the smooth side. I was expecting this to be an adjunct lager like Budweiser or equally useless shit like Heineken, but the malt base in Birra Moretti is more than welcome. Low on hops and playing it safe, Birra Moretti smells grassy, has a thick head that takes time to disappear, and tastes sweet. Nice surprise, indeed.

RATING: 3.5/5

Beer Review: Peroni Nastro Azzurro

Embrace your inner Italian? No, thanks!

peroni nastro azzurroEvery country has its beer hero and for Italy, Peroni it is. The bottle is light green and the brew light yellow. I was told the beer itself is light but it turned out to be heavier than most of our Indian beers. While it is a nice, easy to drink beer, there is nothing about it that will make you want to buy it again. When I held it up to my nose, the smell made me put it down for a few seconds and I was convinced that “Nastro Azzurro” is Italian for Nostril Attack. It has a great amount of bitterness and the aroma is exceptionally strong with hints of a sweet floral nature. Not bad with Italian cuisine when served chilled (the beer, not the food), though it tastes like soapwater when it gets warmer. Would I pay for this? No!
